POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

Blantyre is one of the cities known of its cleanliness In Malawi. However it is much pathetic that the city has got poor waste management sometimes.

This month on 14th at Naperi river which is in Blantyre town, has been observed that there have been alot of solid wastes along it's banks which includes unburn industrial wastes, paper plastics as well as agricultural wastes.

Generation of wastes is a part and parcel of day-to-day human life and they are generated from various sources that's why there has to be a proper arrangement on how to dispose these wastes. Mostly these soda cans, plastic water bottles, broken home appliances e.t.c make up these wastes.

Regardless of this city, there has been a problem with the wastes ever since industrial revolution. In addition to that the emergency of technology has given rise to automation and this in turn has led to a profound effect on our environment from non-biodegradable plastics to ozone destroying chloroflorocarbons(CFCs), discover how accumulation of waste affects the environment or planet through climate change of which it's a global problem.

Not only Blantyre has got this problem of waste management but also several parts of this country and even globally.

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), the University which mostly looks at environmental sustainability also has this problem. This means that there is a great danger of the environmental degradation causing problems like pollution and consequently natural disasters and climate change.

It's never too late, we do not have to be singing the 3Rs:reduce,re-use and recycle but it's time that we implement them.
