On 14th May this month it was a national holiday of Kamuzu Day, citizens across the nation gathered to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Malawi's first President and a towering figure in the country's history. Amidst the festivities and reflections, Dr Razarus Mccarthy Chakwera delivered a marvellous address, honoring Kamuzu's achievements while outlining his administration's vision for the future.

In his speech, Chakwera paid tribute to Dr. Banda's visionary leadership and tireless efforts in shaping the nation's trajectory during its formative years. He lauded Kamuzu's role in championing Malawi's independence struggle and steering the country towards stability and development following colonial rule.

Highlighting the achievements of the Kamuzu era, Chakwera underscored the strides made in education, with the establishment of schools and universities across the country, ensuring access to quality education for all Malawians. He also praised Kamuzu's healthcare initiatives, which improved healthcare infrastructure and expanded access to medical services, contributing to the nation's wellbeing.

Furthermore, Chakwera commended. Kamuzu's efforts in fostering national unity and cohesion, transcending ethnic and regional divides to forge a collective Malawian identity. He emphasized the importance of preserving this unity as a cornerstone of national progress, urging citizens to uphold the values of tolerance and inclusivity espoused by Kamuzu.

Amidst the celebrations, Chakwera seized the opportunity to outline his administration's priorities for the future. He reiterated his commitment to building upon Kamuzu's legacy by advancing initiatives aimed at accelerating economic growth, promoting social welfare, and strengthening democratic institutions.

He denounced attempts to sow discord and undermine national unity for narrow political gain, warning against the dangers of such divisive tactics.

In a thinly veiled critique of opposition parties engaging in divisive rhetoric, Chakwera urged political leaders to prioritize the national interest above personal ambitions, calling for a united front in tackling the challenges facing the country."wina afune asafune ndipanga chitukuko zigawo zonse za Malawi" he said, meaning to say he is going to develop every region of the country whether someone likes it or not.

As the nation commemorated Kamuzu Day with fervor and reverence, Chakwera  address served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacy of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda and the imperative of unity in charting Malawi's course towards a brighter future.
